DESCRIPTION: Very strong, stiff, hard & tough timber. It is one of the most plentiful high-quality heavy timbers in the Caribbean. The heartwood varies from chocolate-brown to reddish brown. Sapwood has yellowish to pale brown color. The grain is straight to commonly interlocked, very variable & often has attractive bird’s-eye, wavy, or sometimes ribbon-grain figures. The luster is high & the texture varies from medium to coarse. It has outstanding strength properties & is particularly resistant to wear & remarkably fire resistant.
