DESCRIPTION: Heartwood is light to reddish brown. Sapwood may be lighter in color but is hard to distinguish from the heartwood. Grain is generally straight, but may be interlocked or spiraled. Has a coarse, uneven texture. Eastern Hemlock is the state tree of Pennsylvania.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Eastern North America
BOTANICAL NAME: Tsuga canadensis
WORKING PROPERTIES: The wood tends to splinter easily when being worked & tends to plane poorly. Sanding can create dips & uneven surfaces. Glues, stains & finishes well.
USES: Boxes, crafts/carving, pallets, crates, plywood, framing & other construction purposes. Used primarily as a construction lumber & is in good supply.
